Sampler features two Cocteau Twins songs, one Gene Loves Jezebel, two The Icicle Works, and one Death Cult track. Note how the the second track has appeared as "Reaping the Rich Harvest," "Reap the Rich Harvest," and now here as "Reap the Richest Harvest." Presumably dates from about 1984 as the label reads, "taken from the forthcoming Icicle Works cassette and album 'The Icicle Works.'"

Vertigo SamplerIcicle Works. Originally, we had this compilation listed as saying, "both songs identical to album versions," but it has recently been reported that "Book of Reason" seems to be a different version. It reportedly even features slightly different lyrics in places. A single-sheet artist information pullout includes the (US?) LP cover of Icicle Works and the photo from the cover of Small Price Of A Bicycle. Credits for "Book of Reason" cite Wally Brill as producer and Richard Manwaring as engineer. This double album features various Vertigo artists including Tears for Fears, ABC, Big Country, Love and Rockets, The Cult, Dire Straits, and Cocteau Twins.

This double LP features a wide range of artists, including Elvis Costello, Ringo, Holly Johnson, Paul McCartney, Howard Jones, Feargal Sharkey, and Wham donating a track to the album. "The Needle And The Damage Done" was the final song on side one of the 1st disc.
